Common questions

Subscriptions & Billing

What is included in the free tier?

Every Civic Suite™ app is free to download and useful without a subscription. The free tier includes access to current data, unlimited on-device AI summaries, basic search and filtering, access to your geolocated representatives, and offline access to the bundled data. Premium adds full national district maps, complete coverage of all members and legislation for the current Congress, and iCloud sync across your devices.

How much does Premium cost, and how is it billed?

Premium is an auto-renewing annual subscription priced at less than $2 per month equivalent. The exact price in your local currency is always shown on the subscription screen in the app before you confirm any purchase. Prices may vary by region.

Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period.

How do I manage or cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are sold and managed by the App Store, not by us, so cancellation happens in your Apple Account settings:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap your name at the top, then tap Subscriptions.
  3. Select the Civic Suite™ app and tap Cancel Subscription.

You can also open this screen directly from inside the app: go to Profile → Subscription and tap Manage Subscription. Canceling stops the next renewal; you keep Premium access through the end of the period you already paid for.

I paid but Premium is not active. How do I restore my purchase?

Open the subscription screen in the app and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple Account that made the original purchase. If Premium still does not activate, email support@civicsuiteapps.com and we will help sort it out.

How do I request a refund?

Because purchases are processed by Apple, refunds are handled by Apple rather than by us. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple Account, and select the purchase you want refunded. If Apple declines the request and you believe there was an error on our side, let us know at support@civicsuiteapps.com.

Does my subscription work across all three apps?

No. Each app has its own separate subscription. Subscribing to CivicScope™ Premium does not unlock Premium in ExecutiveScope or JudicialScope.

Does Premium work on my other devices?

Yes. Premium follows your Apple Account, so it applies on any device signed in to the same account. Tap Restore Purchases on a new device if Premium does not appear right away. Premium also enables iCloud sync so your saved items and preferences follow you across devices.

Data & Sources

Where does the data in the apps come from?

Everything we show is public U.S. government information, drawn from official and open sources:

  • Congress.gov — bills, resolutions, sponsors, committee activity, and roll call votes
  • GovInfo (U.S. Government Publishing Office) — official bill text and published documents
  • Federal Election Commission (FEC) — candidate registrations and campaign finance filings
  • Federal Register — executive orders, proclamations, and presidential memoranda
  • U.S. Department of Justice, Office of the Pardon Attorney — clemency and pardon records
  • CourtListener (Free Law Project) and the Harvard Caselaw Access Project — court opinions and dockets
  • House.gov, Senate.gov, and the U.S. Census Bureau — member directories and congressional district boundaries

Every record in the apps links back to its original source so you can verify anything you read. CivicScope™ also lists its sources in the app under Profile → About → Data Sources.

How does the offline database work?

Each app ships with a bundled, pre-built database of government records. That is why searches return results instantly and why the apps keep working with no network connection. For anything new, the apps make small, targeted requests to the sources above and merge the results into the local database. Updated databases are delivered with app updates from the App Store.

Something in the app looks wrong or out of date.

We do not edit or editorialize government records, so a discrepancy is almost always either a source-timing lag or an import bug on our side. Either way we want to hear about it. Email support@civicsuiteapps.com with the bill number, case name, document number, or member name, plus what you expected to see. Please include a screenshot when you can.

Are the AI summaries reliable?

Summaries are generated on your device to help you get oriented quickly, and they can be incomplete or imprecise. Always read the linked official text before relying on any summary for a decision. Summaries are a reading aid, not an authoritative source.

Are the apps politically neutral?

Yes. We present factual records — votes, bill text, opinions, and official actions — exactly as published by their government sources. We do not add commentary, endorsements, ratings, or partisan framing.

Account & Privacy

Do I need an account to use the apps?

No. The apps are fully usable without signing in. Signing in with Apple or Google is optional and enables features such as syncing your saved items across devices.

How do I delete my account and data?

Visit our Privacy Choices page to submit a deletion request, or email privacy@civicsuiteapps.com. Verified accounts are deactivated within 14 days and personal data is permanently deleted within 30 days.

What data do the apps collect?

We collect only anonymous analytics and we do not sell user data. Full details, including what is collected and how long it is kept, are in our Privacy Policy.

Troubleshooting

The app crashes or will not open.
  1. Force quit the app and reopen it.
  2. Check the App Store for an available update — most crashes are fixed in a newer build.
  3. Restart your device.
  4. If it still crashes, reinstall the app. Purchases are tied to your Apple Account and can be recovered with Restore Purchases.

If none of that works, email support@civicsuiteapps.com with your device model, OS version, and what you were doing when it crashed.

Location or representative lookup is not working.

Confirm the app has location permission in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services. You can also enter an address or ZIP code manually instead of using GPS.

Search is not returning what I expect.

Search runs against the bundled offline database. Try a shorter query, a bill number (for example HR 1), or a case name rather than a full citation. If a record you know exists is genuinely missing, tell us and we will look at the import.

How do I change the app's language?

The apps are localized into 18 languages and follow your device language automatically. To change it for a single app on iOS, go to Settings, find the app in the list, and tap Language.

Still stuck? Email support@civicsuiteapps.com and a real person will get back to you. There is no ticket queue to navigate and no phone tree.
